Modeled after the successful First Steps to Learning program in the Greencastle-Antrim School District, the Drew Michael Taylor Foundation supports a similar program in the Shippensburg Area School District called "Ready, Set, Go!". This free program for parents and children from birth to kindergarten is offered each fall and spring and rotates between the James Burd and Nancy Grayson Elementary Schools. After a free dinner is served, parents attend workshops led by school district staff members to receive valuable information about how they can help prepare their children for kindergarten success. While adults are attending these workshops, their children have a great time at early literacy centers developed and led by student volunteers in the Shippensburg University Elementary Education and Reading programs.

The next program will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 5 - 7 p.m. at James Burd Elementary School. Call James Burd Elementary School at 530-2780 or Nancy Grayson Elementary School at 530-2770 by Friday, October 16 to register your family for this important informational program.

Dealing with grief is challenging, especially for children and teens. Drew's Hope is a free grief and loss support program offered each fall and spring for children, teens and their families. The seven session program is facilitated by counseling students and professors from Shippensburg University and is held on the campus of Shippensburg University. Each session includes a complimentary dinner, followed by separate support sessions for children, teens and adults. Contact Dr. Bill McHenry, Shippensburg University Growing Edges Community Counseling Clinic coordinator, at (717) 477-1673 or bjmche@ship.edu.

This project has been funded in part by The Franklin County Foundation, a component regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
